FSIS Issues Public Health Alert For Imported Chicken Product For Foreign Matter Contamination

WASHINGTON, March 7, 2016 The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert to notify the public of a recall conducted by Maxi Canada, Inc., a Québec, Canada, establishment, involving approximately 103,752 pounds of chicken product that may be contaminated with metal pieces. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) notified FSIS of the recall, which affected products exported to the United States.

The chicken nugget item was produced in July 2015, and was imported to the United States between July 30, 2015 and March 5, 2016. The products subject to the public health alert include the following:   [Label (PDF Only)]

• 38-oz (2.975-lb) boxes of Yummy brand fully cooked CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS | 100% All Natural* | Nugget-Shaped Chicken Breast Patty Fritters with rib meat PRODUCT OF CANADA with a BEST IF USED BY date of 07/18/17.

The products bear establishment number Canada Est. 348 and UPC number 064563225782. This item was shipped to retail locations in the United States nationwide and can be found at retailers such as Kroger, Wal-Mart, and Safeway.                              

The problem was discovered when a consumer from the United States complained to Maxi Canada, Inc. of a foreign object in the product. Maxi Canada, Inc. initiated a recall on March 5, 2016, and CFIA subsequently notified FSIS.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness potentially associated with the recalled product should contact a health care provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
