WASHINGTON, Jan. 24, 2018 The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert because Pigeon Caterers, Inc., doing business as Carnival Brands, a New Orleans, La. establishment, produced and distributed approximately 140 pounds of a chicken and pork product without the benefit of federal inspection. A possibility of adverse health consequences exists when products are produced without the benefit of full inspection. A recall was not requested because it is believed that the product is no longer in commerce and are past their Enjoy by dates.
The ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken and pork item was produced and packaged on various dates from May 12, 2017, through Jan. 15, 2018. The following product is subject to the public health alert:
- 6 oz. plastic containers containing CAJUN MAC with ENJOY BY dates of May 17, 2017 through Jan. 20, 2018.
This product does not bear the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a hotel, Moxy Hotel, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The problem was discovered by FSIS inspection personnel during a review of records at the establishment.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a health care provider.
Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it. This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
